Associate
Fellow, Society for Technical Communication. In January 2005,
Janis Ramey received the honor of being elected Associate Fellow
of the world's largest organization devoted to the profession
of technical writing. The citation reads "For continuous
and outstanding support of STC, for contributions to the field
of technical communication, and for a lifetime of outstanding
achievement in the field."

FastGate®
Metrology System Operation Manual. This manual won an Award
of Excellence in the 2004 publications competition sponsored
by the Society for Technical Communication.
Janis wrote and published the manual. Bill Gleason of Solid
State Measurements, Inc., was project manager. Several SSM engineers
provided source information.
Excerpt from judges' evaluations: "This is an excellent
work that explains a complex, technical product. The writing
is consistently clear and crisp throughout. Nice use of graphics
and liberal cross-references. The company and the writer should
be proud of this manual."
This
website for E.A.Fischione Instruments, Inc., won an Award
of Excellence in the 2004 online competition sponsored by
the Society for Technical Communication. Janis wrote and edited
most of the text. A to Z Communications designed and published
the website. Paul Fischione was the client.

Helping
Local People Save Local Land. This brochure for Allegheny
Land Trust won an Award of Merit in the 2004 publications
competition sponsored by the Society for Technical Communication.
Janis wrote and edited the brochure. Tony Condello was the
designer. Roy Kraynyk was the photographer and the client.

Excerpt from the judges' evaluations: "This brochure
is a quick and easy read. Very effective. The fact that I want
to get answers to my questions shows that this piece can draw
in a new contributor, particularly someone who has never heard
of the Trust. ....this should be a very effective marketing tool."
Fischione Model
200 Dimpling Grinder Instruction Manual. This manual won
an Award of Merit in the 2004 publications competition
sponsored by the Society for Technical Communication.
Janis rewrote, edited, and formatted the manual. Thomas C.
Swihart of E.A.Fischione Instruments, Inc. wrote the draft.
Excerpt from judges' evaluations: "Good job. The
instructions are easy to follow. You have a nice technical sound
to your writing voice, which gives it credibility to the technical
reader. "
Outcome-Based
Evaluation Tools. This manual published by The Pennsylvania
Coalition Against Rape won an Award of Merit in the 2002
publications competition sponsored by the Society for Technical
Communication. This was a collaborative effort of several writers
from several agencies, including The Center Against Violence
and The Alice Paul House, The Center for Victims of Violent Crime,
and Pittsburgh Action Against Rape.
Janis rewrote, edited, and formatted the manual.
With Janis's help, Caldon, Inc.,
created a website that won awards at both the local and international
levels of the 2000/2001 Online Competition sponsored by
the Society for Technical Communication.

Montour Run Watershed: A Case
for Conservation. Janis wrote this booklet for Hollow Oak
Land Trust. It won an Award of Excellence in the 2000/2001
publications competition sponsored by the Pittsburgh Chapter
of the Society for Technical Communication.
This was a cooperative effort: Mike Ostrowski designed the
booklet; Janet Thorne was the client.
In March 2000, the Pittsburgh
Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication presented
Janis with a special Distinguished Chapter Service Award.
This is the commendation:
"In grateful recognition of your steady support of
the Pittsburgh chapter, your encouragement and guidance as a
mentor, and your abiding belief in the value of what we do."
These two brochures won awards
in the 1999/2000 publications competition sponsored by the Society
for Technical Communication. They first won the Distinguished
Technical Communication award from the Pittsburgh Chapter
which made them eligible for the international competition. At
that level they won an Award of Merit.
This was a cooperative effort: Janis Ramey was the writer,
Brendan Wiant of Bally Design was the designer, and Ernie Hauser
of Caldon, Inc. was the client.

LEFM Uprate Product Information
LEFM Uprate Program Summary
In 1997, she won similar awards
for the report, Allegheny County Greenways. The report
first won the Distinguished Technical Communication award
